The Bloop And Cthulhu
In 1997, something made an ultra-low frequency and extremely powerful underwater noise detected by the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) that has never been explained. It has been called ‘The Bloop’.
The origin of the sound has been traced to a remote point in the south Pacific Ocean west of the southern tip of South America, near Antarctica.
Analysis of the sound has ruled out man-made noise and at this time, it is not believed to have been caused by a geological event. The noise is similar to that of a biological sound, but many times too loud to have been caused by any known earth creature.
So what caused this incredibly loud unidentified noise?
Could it be Cthulhu?
You know Cthulhu, the fictional cosmic entity created by horror author H. P. Lovecraft that first appeared in the short story “The Call of Cthulhu” published in 1928. According to Lovecraft, Cthulhu is one The Great Old Ones, ancient extraterrestrial beings of great power. Cthulha is/was a particularly nasty one. A gigantic, bat-winged, octopus-headed humanoid known for its evil. Cthulhu was buried on an island called R’lyeh in the Pacific Ocean.
The nightmare corpse-city of R’lyeh…was built in measureless eons behind history by the vast, loathsome shapes that seeped down from the dark stars. There lay great Cthulhu and his hordes, hidden in green slimy vaults.
Lovecraft gave the location of Cthulhu’s watery tomb… 49 degrees South, 128 degrees West, with in several hundred miles of the location NOAA gave of the source of the Bloop.
The website www.bloopwatch.org has been keeping carefull watch of the Bloop/Cthulhu relationship for while.
And now, you can hear Bloop noises right here!
- Bloop.wav: This is the sound as it appears on the NOAA’s page. According to them, it was sped up 16 times to produce this file.
- Bloop_nr.wav: This is the same file, but with Noise Reduction applied.
- Bloop_realtime.wav: Now, the original file is slowed down 16 times to attempt to give as accurate a reproduction as possible. WARNING: This file is rather large – 2.5 meg
- Bloop_realtime_nr.wav: Finally, we have the realtime file with noise reduction applied. WARNING: This file is rather large – 2.5 meg
Meanwhile, creepy videos are being made and posted on YouTube
