Creepy Clowns

Cryptozoologist Loren Coleman has a very interesting post on his Copycat Effect BlogSpot detailing a recent ‘flap’ of Creepy or Phantom Clowns in the Chicago area.

Since early October, numerous reports of a Clown accosting and possibly trying to abduct children have been coming from around the city. Described as “dressed in a multi-colored clown suit with a mask or white face paint, a red nose and a teardrop on his cheek” the clown has left the scene in a van. No arrests have been made.

In Coleman’s Mysterious America, he described a similar Creepy Clown flap in 1981, stretching from Boston to Kansas City, five years before Stephen King’s book IT brought us Pennywise The Clown.

Add this ‘come back’ to the return of the Stephenville Texas UFOs and the New Sideways Walking Gnome Sighting and even if the 14th was a bit disappointing, October 2008 has been a great month for the return of the weird.

  1. The phantom clown enigma is very interesting, and I would love to read more about this subject. Incidentally, have you heard of a Florida author named Greg Jenkins? He has written several books on ghosts, but has an upcoming book about other strange vents, including a section of clown stories here in Florida. I believe his book is coming out this September by Pineapple Press.
